e.l.f. Goodies!
Hi, everyone!
This is my first official beauty post and what better way to start off my new venture into the blogging world than with cheap and affordable makeup!
Today I will be talking about e.l.f. cosmetics!
This has been one of my favorite drugstore makeup products, primarily because of its low prices. I have used some of its products here and there, ranging from brushes, to powders, and even setting spray. Some of their items I love, and there are some that I can live without.
I have teamed up with +Influenster who kindly sent me this +e.l.f. Cosmetics VoxBox complimentary for me to test out their products and give my honest opinion! How cool is that?
In the box pictured above, [from left to right] I received:
- e.l.f. Mineral Infused Primer (the original white bottle)
- e.l.f. Matte Lip Color (in the color 'Wine')
- e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator (in 'Mint Maniac')
- e.l.f. Cosmetics Baked Highlighter & Bronzer
- e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask
I was so excited to try these products out, especially because they were all items that I have never tried before. I was most excited for the lip exfoliator and the bubble mask, because they were both very innovative products. I will do a rundown of my honest opinion and first impression of each product.
Mineral Infused Primer
I am not so much a primer-using type of girl. Before being sent this product, I was never really big on wearing primer. The only one I have used and I love is Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional primer, but I feel that it works more as a pore-filler rather than a primer. Other than that specific product, I am lost when it comes to primers and knowing the best ones to use.
When I first put the Mineral Infused Primer on my face, my first reaction was "Oh my gosh, I am going to look so oily after this!" But, quite the contrary happened....
The primer felt like I was putting a new canvas on my face for my foundation to sit perfectly on. My face felt smooth and my foundation looked better! I felt it gave my the perfect glow and did not make me look oily at all! What's even better is that I didn't break out! When trying new face products, I am always very skeptical and hesitant because I have such sensitive skin, that I find I break out or even have hives. I was very satisfied with this product and it has even got me thinking, "Wow, if this primer works this well for only $6, maybe I should even try higher end primers and may love them!"
I guess I may be turning into a primer-using type of girl after-all!
Matte Lip Color in Wine
It is winter time and I love me a dark lippie! I was so very excited to try this product because
1. It's a dark color -and-
2. It's Matte, what could go wrong?

Actually...a few things. What a bummer.
I have few complaints about this product and it makes me sad because I really wanted to like it!
First and foremost, the color payoff was nothing like how I expected. This lip color went on smooth and buttery, more like a chapstick rather that a lipstick. The color is definitely not what I consider matte at all and ended up looking very sheer. I found myself reapplying everywhere, only for the product to move around and it looked very streaky.
Overall I would not recommend this product :( Below is a swatch of the lip color on my hand.
Lip Exfoliator in Mint Maniac
Tis the season for dry/cracked lips, and you will not find me without my lip scrubs!
I love my Tarte Maracuja Lip Exfoliant and it is a product that is a part of my nightly routine. I recently purchased a lip scrub from Lush in 'Sugar Plum Fairy' and I am loving it! I was super excited to try out the e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator because it isn't like the other two items mentioned. Instead of being more so a cream/loose lip scrub in a jar, this exfoliator is solid and in a lipstick form. What I like about it is that it is definitely less messy and there's no need to use your fingers to apply it. It was weird using it at first, but once you break it in, it is a great alternative scrub. Plus it is minty and and leave a cool, refreshing feeling on the lips!
Baked Highlighter & Bronzer
It seems that the biggest trend this past year has been a popping highlighter and bronzer duo, so of course it was only right to have this in the VoxBox. I found that this particular product didn't give me the pop of highlight that I usually go for, but more for a natural, subtle glow, which is also great. For everyday makeup looks when I want to go for a more natural beat, I find myself grabbing this little gem for just that. For a more intense pop of color, I either layer it on top of a cream highlighter or a dab of face oil to really get it shining bright.
Hydrating Bubble Mask
Now this was the product I was most excited to try out. I have seen plenty of beauty gurus try out Korean face masks, and there was a charcoal bubble mask that they tried, and it looked so cool! The pump feature on this packaging is smart because it seals in the product air tight so that it doesn't oxidize and bubble up inside. It pumps out as a gel and you put an even layer on your face and watch it grow! I will admit that as fun as this mask was, I don't feel that it really did much for my skin. I just felt like it was more for aesthetic value and it was just sitting on my face. The product does claim to be hydrating, and I do admit it was not drying and I didn't break out, so that is a plus!
I hope you enjoyed my very first beauty blog post/review. There will be more to come so stay tuned!
